How does a spray tan work?

All tanning solutions contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is actually colourless and is not a dye, stain or paint, but causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the dead layer on the skin surface. Your spray tan fades with the natural shedding of your skin, this is why exfoliating your dead skin prior to your appointment is so important.

What spray tan brands do you use?

We have tried MANY different brands over the years and the one brand we have always kept is Black Magic Tan. Due to some of our customers requests we also currently stock MineTan.

Do you offer a loyalty system?

If a concession card is not for you then we offer a loyalty system. Receive a stamp for every full priced spray tan. Your 5th tan is half price and 10th tan FREE. We have had this system in place since the day we opened - it's our way of saying "thank you" to all of our loyal customers. The loyalty system has no expiry so these can just slowly build up if you don't get spray tans regularly. You can either have a physical stamp card or we can keep track for you.

How do I prepare for my spray tan?

  We need clean hydrated skin! Preparing for your spray tan well, will ensure the longevity of it.  Exfoliate your skin 24 hours before your appointment. Hydrate your skin from the inside out by drinking plenty of water. Moisterise leading up to your appointment. If you need to wax do this 48 hours prior to ensure your pores have closed. Come to your appointment with clean skin. No makeup, no moisteriser, no deodorant, no perfume etc. If you find you are quite dry feel free to apply moisteriser to the dry spots on the day of your appointment, this will ensure the spray tan doesn't grab to these areas.

What do I wear white getting a spray tan & after my appointment?

We want you to feel comfortable during your tanning session! Most people wear their own underwear or a disposable g (which can actually be washed and re-used!) and go topless. You can wear your bra and tuck in the straps, togs, or birthday suit!

Wear loose fitting dark clothing after your appointment. A flowy dress, loose pants and a jacket if raining. I always recommend to wear your PJ's or a dressing gown! Leave the bra at home or leave it off after your appointment. Most underwear and bras are too tight to put on afterward.

How do I care for my new spray tan?

Do not get your new tan wet until you are ready to rinse the bronzer off. When showering the water is to be warm and it is just a quick rinse. No soap, shampoo etc. When you hop out of the shower pat your skin dry with the towel instead of rubbing, Avoid exfoliating until you are ready to remove the tan. Moisterise morning and night.

Why are my armpits green?

This is caused by a chemical reaction with your deodorant. Sometimes strong deodorants leave a residue on the skin days after it was last applied. If your armpits turn green this should wash off in the shower, sometimes you may need to use a wee bit of soap.

What is the process when I arrive?

When you arrive for your appointment you will be greeted at the door and shown to the tanning room. This room is located to the left as you enter our front door. We will then chat about how dark you'd like to go, whether you tan naturally in the sun or burn and whether you prefer a rapid tan or to sleep in it. You will then be shown where the disposables are, where to place your personal belongings and will be left to undress in private.

You will be sprayed with the prep spray (if applicable), sprayed with tanning solution, sprayed with the lock spray (if applicable), blending will be completed and then you will be left to dry yourself in private. If finishing powder is required we will prepare this while you give yourself a quick dry. This will be applied all over paying special attention to the tacky areas and you will be left to dress in private.

How long does my new spray tan take to develop?

You will be advised at your appointment as to how long to leave the bronzer on before rinsing off. All our solutions range from 1 hours through to sleeping in it depending on how dark you'd like to go and your personal preference. Your spray tan will be fully developed 48 hours after you have been sprayed.

How long will my new spray tan last?

As long as you follow the prep and aftercare instructions your spray tan should last a good 7 to 10 days. You can extend this by purchasing tan xtend. This is a moisteriser with DHA in it.

Can I exercise after my spray tan?

We recommend waiting until your spray tan is fully developed before exercising again as it will affect development.

I'm breast feeding, can I still get a spray tan?

Yes you can however, we recommend covering your breasts. You can either wear a bra and tuck in the straps, or, most of my clients stick the sticky side of breast pads to them selves to avoid tan lines across their back. Nipple covers are also a great alternative as these sit flat on the skin. Please check before your appointment as we may have some breast pads in stock.

Am I protected from the sun?

No, spray tans do not contain SPF in them. Please use sun protection when outdoors.

Can I swim or go in hot tubs with a spray tan?

That is one of the reasons we get a spray tan, right?! Yes you can, however, it is a form of exfoliation which means your spray tan may not last as long.

How many days before an event should I book?

We recommend 2 days before an event. Your spray tan will be at its darkest 48 hours after you have been sprayed. If you are heading away on holiday then we would recommend coming the day before you leave.

How long does an appointment take?

Your appointment time is 20 minutes long. Please use the toilet before arriving as this is not located near my tanning room & we are on a tight schedule. If I am running behind, I will give you a heads up.

Will the spray tan stain my bedding or clothes?

If any of the bronzer transfers to your clothing or bedding this will wash out. If sleeping in it we recommend wearing pyjamas so you don't accidentally touch yourself while sleeping and end up with orange hands!

Do you spray tan males?

Yes! We ask that males leave their underwear on for their spray tan session. G Strings welcome. Sorry, we do not currently have disposable g strings for males.

Do you have off street parking?

We are located up a long drive way. You are welcome to park up the drive in front of the gate. The gate will be open if it is raining. Please only come the entire way up if you are confident reversing back out.

​

Can I bring my children?

Yes, children are welcome. As we don't have a waiting room they can either watch or play with my own children.

​

Can I come with my friends?

You are welcome to come with friends but due to not having a waiting area we ask that  you come inside one at a time. This is because our tanning room is small and with multiple bodies, fans and lights going it does warm up quickly.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash or bank transfer. Sorry - eftpos and credit are not available at this time. Our bank account details are: Doll me up Tanning 12-3161-0784997-00. Payment must be made prior to your appointment or before leaving.

What is your cancellation policy?

We love as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your appointment, we understand that sometimes this is not possible. Multiple no shows or last minute cancellations may require 50% deposit when re-booking.
